Eolian Islands – when lifestyle and natural beauties meet up

Lipari Islands – or Eolian Islands – in the north side of Sicily are among the most well known destinations in the West Mediterranean Sea. The night-life in Panarea, as well as the opportunity to visit a volcano erupting every day and night, make these islands so famous and attractive that, if you consider yourself as a good traveller or proper sailor, you should visit them at least once in your life. Lipari, Vulcano, Panarea, Stromboli, Filicudi… Let’s look at a possible itinerary of one week, embarking and disembarking in Lipari, the main Island, which is well connected to Naples or Milazzo, through fast ferry, hydrofoil and fast catamaran.

Saturday – embark in Lipari island and cast off the lines to sail to Le Bocche, a dramatic bay made of rocks, rising from the water like monoliths, located on the south side of the island, between Lipari and Vulcano. Sunday – after breakfast, let’s sail easterly to Filicudi, the wildest of the Eolian islands. They used to live on this island, far away from every possible civilization, at that time. Night at anchor in the little fisherman village Pecorini a mare, on the south.

Monday – sailing westerly to Salina to drop anchor in the beautiful bay of Pollara, well known by the fans of the¬† “Cinema Italiano”: in fact the bay was the set of ‘Il Postino’, an Italian Movie about the poet Neruda and a simple postman; the movie won the Oscar as Best Film not in English language, in 1988. Night in port, at Santa Marina di Salina.

Tuesday – sailing to Panarea Island, lunch in Cala Milazzese. In the evening, drop the anchor in time for the aperitif, in front of the village, which has become the most fashionable spot of the Eolian Islands, thanks to the most renown night disco-club Raya.

Wednesday – after breakfast, sailing session and water activities around the island and in Lisca Bianca, one of the best location between Panarea and Stromboli. After lunch, sailing to Stromboli: the island is nothing less than a volcano erupting everyday 24/7. The ideal is to arrange a night trip to the side where its activity is still live, to watch an unforgettable and spectacular natural show.

Thursday – sailing back to Panarea island to get to Basiluzzo, a small rock on the sea, where you will find a natural pool of spring water, in the middle of the open sea. Night at anchor in Panarea to have another walk-in the the night-life of the island.

Friday – sailing to the White Beaches of Pomix, back in Lipari Island, where the caves of Pomix have created a pure white sand of smooth pomix. in the evening, sail back to the port of Lipari, in time to have a walk ashore in the old town and visit the old Monastery.

Saturday – after breakfast, disembark to get the ferry, in time for your next flight.
